The royal courtesan named Kosa lived in this city. Munishri Sthulibhadraji asked permission for his monsoon sojourn in her house got it and changed the courtesan kosa into a Shravika observing the twelve vows. This is a long-remembered incident in the history of the Jain religion. The two sects of Svetambars and Digambars can into existence since the times of Sthulibhadra.
