Historicity: It is believed that the history of this place belongs to the
ninth century. Its ancient name was Gambhira or Gambhuta. Idols of
many Tirthankara were made here. Acharya Sheelankacharya composed the Acharanga Sutra and
the scripture Sushrut here.
