Shri Modhera Tirth

Historicity: It seems that this temple belongs to the times earlier than the ninth century of the Vikram era. While describing this temple, Jinaprabhasurisvarji said that Bappabhattacharyaji used to come from space route to pilgrimage this place. As per scriptures, an ancient temple of Bhagwan Mahavir was there. This is the original place of the Modhera gachchha. Kalikalasarvajna Hemachandrcharya belonged to the Modhera family and this is his birth place. Mahatma Gandhi also belonged to the Modh caste and this is the birth place of his ancestors. Numerous sculptures and idols were found nearby this place.
