How to reach:  Aihole is 46 kms from Bagalkot.Bagalkot is a taluka of Bijapur dist.  It is 90 Kms from Bijapur and is  140 Kms from Belgaum by road. The tourists visiting Aihole caves may also stay at Bagalkot.

Historicity: There are numerous ancient temples. It is stated that about 100 temples were constructed by Chalukya kings during 450- 600 CAD. Even today, we could see the remnants of about 70 odd temples scattered at this place.The temple of ladkhan, Durga temple and Meguti temple are important ones. The famous Chalukya King Pulkeshi II was follower of Jainism. The Shilalekh of Ravikirti in praise Pulkeshi is still available in Meguti temple. The idol of Shasan devi Ambika is very attractive. There are two storied  Jain cave temples called 'meen basdi' of 7^th CAD near the Meguti temple. The idol of Bhagwan arahnath,Bhagwan Parsvanath and Bhagwan bahubali are very ancient in this temple. Besides there is a temple  of parsvanath of 11^th CAD in the village.  There are three famous groups of temple known as Charanti Math  group- Yeniyvar math group- and Yogi narain group
