Mulnayak: Idol of Bhagwan Bahubali

 

How to reach: this place is 52 Kms from Manglore and 32 Kms from Dharamsthala. and 20 Kms from mudbidri. Guruvayankere is just 15 Kms on highway.one could stay at Mudbidri or dharamsthal while visiting this place.

 Historicity: There are 8 Jain temple at this place. The idols installed in these temples are very artistic and charming. The main attraction at this place is a 35 feet high idol of Bhagwan Bahubali standinf on a pair of lotus. the other ancient temple is shanteshwar basdi It is stated that this statue was made 7 Kms from this place at Kalyani.

   The 35 feet high idol of Bhagwan Bahubali is on plain  unlike those of Sharavanbelgola or karkala. The courtyard of this monument is about 7 feet and this idol is visible from miles away. In this courtyard, there are smaller temples- Binnani   dedicated to Bhagwan Shantinath and Akkangal (built by sisters)dedicated to Bhagwan chandraprabh.

The parsvanath temple  is in the building of Shri Digamabar Jain atisay kshetra tirth samiti. The other temples are: Kallu basdi built in 1490 dedicated to Bhagwan Shantinath- Bhagwan Mahavir temple on the second floor of kallu basdi- Rishabdev basdi near kallu basdi- choubise tirthanakar temple built in 1621; in this temple the idols of 24 tirthanakara are on the vedis decorated with lions and is also known as haripeeth.
