Historicity:
Ellora cave temples are world famous and dates back to 7-10 CAD. It is said that in the
name of Jain Acharya Ellaacharaya- the village derived its name Ellora and on the name of
the village, these caves came to be known as Ellora caves. Here at Ellora, a total of 34
cave temples dedicated to Hindu- Bodhh and Jains are artistically sculptured. The caves
Nos. 30 to 34 are Jain caves. The Jain caves were built in the time of Rastrkut and
Ellvansi dynasty during 7-10 CAD. The colorful paintings and sculptures of these caves are
marvelous. The idols of Parsvanath during Upsarg (inflicting pain by bad elements) and in
Tapasya- Bhagwan Bahubali in kayotsarg (standing posture during abandonment of body)
Dharender Padmavati- Gomed Ambika- Masangsiddyani- Chakreshwari- dancing
neelanajana are some examples of superior art.
