Shri
Mandar Tirth
Mulnayak:
Nearly 120 cms high, white-colored idol of Bhagawan Mahavir Swami in the Padmasana
posture.
Tirth: It is in a street of temples in the Mandar village. The
nearest railway station of Abu Road is at a distance of 50 kilometers from here. Bus
service and private vehicles are available. Boarding and lodging facilities are there.
Historicity: There is a reference to this village in the list of the
members of the committee appointed for the annual function of Abu - Delwada in the year
1287 of the Vikram era. This temple is mentioned in the Tirthmala composed by Poet Megh in
the year 1499 of the Vikram era. It seems that his temple was buried in an earthquake. The
large idol of Bhagawan and the idols of Bhagawan Parshvanath and Bhagawan Vimalnath in the
Kayotsarga posture were found during digging of the ground near a hill outside the
village. This temple was renovated and this ancient extraordinary idol was reinstalled in
the year 1920 of the Vikram era. Many ruins of buildings outside the village reveal that
this was a large city of many temples. Inscriptions also state that rich merchants of this
place participated in many religious activities. A flag is hoisted on the thirteenth day
of the bright half of the month of Magh. Here one should also visit the old temple of
Bhagawan Dharmanath.
