Historicity: This tirth belongs to the times of Bhagawan Suparshvanth. In ancient times, this tirth was known by the names ‘Indrapur’, ‘Madhulika’, ‘Madhupuri’, etc. This was the capital of King Ugrasen, Bhagawan Parshvanath, the twenty- third Tirthankar sanctified this place by his monsoon sojourn. Created by gods, a Jewel - studded, golden, large stupa of Bhagawan Suparshvanath was here. It was renovated in the eighth century of the Vikram era. ‘Vividh Tirthkalpa’ written by Jinaprabhusurishvariji in the fourteenth century, shows that this was a prosperous city. There were 84 forests here in the times of Jambuswami. They were known as Jambusars. Jambuswami attained moksa here. Therefore, this is called ‘Chorasi’ ? At present, a new temple is built in this ancient place and the ancient wooden sandals are installed in it. Krishna, the future Tirthnkara was born here in a jail. This is, therefore, his birth - place. It was here that Krishna defeated Kansa in wrestling. This is a Holy Land of many occasions and memorable incidents.Four Digambar and one Svetambar temples are also worth seeing in Mathura. There is a Digambar jain Mandir at Vrindavan also.

At present, there are new temples on the ancient place of ‘Chorasi’ and there are remains of ancient Jina idols, stupas, copperplates, and many various invaluable things. They give an idea of the antiquity of this place. Nowhere in the whole of India, there is a treasure of such ancient remains found from the hollow of the ground. many idols and remains of this place are stored in the Lucknow museum. Research work is awaited. This is in important place for archaeological research - workers.
